For this first column the best topic to discuss is “Truth,” more specifically what is “Scriptural Truth?” In the book of John, chapter 17 we have recorded for us a prayer of Christ on the night of His betrayal. This prayer can be broken down into three different sections; first Christ prays for himself, secondly he prays for His apostles and third he prays for the whole world — all believers in all ages. I would like to draw your attention though to verse 17 and what is stated “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” Christ seems to sweep away the last physical barrier that separated Him from His home above. In verse 16 the deity of Christ is exemplified with His intimate conversation with God. The absolute statement of sanctification or how one is sanctified by truth is given by Christ.
There aren’t any other writings, no new revelations to be given nor will there ever be, which can sanctify one’s soul other than the word of God, the Bible. This is why it is important that all of us simply accept the word of God as our only guide and standard.
In 2 Timothy chapter 3 at verse 16 we read in Paul’s writing to Timothy the clarity of this truth when Paul states “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” Is there really a need for any other writing or discipline other than what our creator has given us? I believe we can all agree with the answer of NO. How then can one come to an understanding of the truth which will make one free according to John 8:32? The answer is simple, we just apply what we read in 2 Timothy 2:15 where the scripture states we must study or be diligent to show ourselves approved unto God. We must be willing to look at scriptures with an open heart (our mind), keep the scripture in context, that is rightly dividing the scripture and do what the Bible teaches. The word of God is TRUTH! It has guided man for years and has been preserved throughout the generations. I pray we may all be as Paul stated in Romans 1:16 “I am not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ for it is the power of God unto salvation.” Let’s face it there is no other truth and no other way but God’s. Until next week to God be the glory, this is the Scriptural Truth.
