Noah Part 1

If I were to ask you to build a huge ship could you do it? Let’s make the task a little more challenging. You are to build the ship without the use of today’s modern equipment, such as cutting torches, welders and so on. Now, I want to go a step further, you will not be given a set of blue prints, your instructions to build this ship will all be verbal. Are you up to the challenge? In the Old Testament we have just such a situation. A man by the name of Noah was given such a task from God. In in Genesis 6:14 we read “Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch. And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits. A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it.” God had a reason for asking Noah to build the ark, He (God) was about to destroy the earth with a huge flood. In my article today I want to take special notice of the instructions given to Noah of how he was to construct the ark. Noah was given verbally the length, height, number of levels, window placement and even how to “water proof” the ark (the pitch). As we bear in mind these specifics I would like to ask the question, “What if Noah had NOT done exactly as God had commanded?” I would suggest God would have been displeased because Noah disobeyed. The same reason, man’s disobedience, was why God was having him build the ark to start with. Noah had showed himself to be a righteous man before God and the ark was to be his safety from the flood. This leads to the question of what makes the disobedience of man today any different than that in the days of Noah? The answer is simple …it doesn’t. God requires us to live a certain way, act a certain way and worship a certain way. I know this to be true because it is stated in the scriptures.(Luke 6:46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?). If one wants to build a ship they have to do it according to specifications given or the ship will not float. For one to go to Heaven when this life is over they MUST live this life according to the specifications God has given, “Not every one that says unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven (Matthew 7:21).” Next week I will continue with more thoughts from this text but until then, this is the Scriptural Truth.
