Summer Vacation with God

Summer time means fun times! The grills are fired up and the smell of food being prepared tantalizes the taste buds of all those around. Summer also means time for family vacations or a getaway for a few days to relax. Here is a question for all to consider, during all the activities you may be involved in this summer, will the Lord be with you? This question may seem off the wall to some but consider what is really being asked. Too often during vacations or down time God is left out of the itinerary during the planning process. The bibles which might normally be used are left at home, no phone calls are made ahead of time to look for a place to worship and so on. What makes vacations or summer down time different from the rest of the year? One must understand God is a jealous God (Ex.34:14, Deut.4:24), and is worthy of all adoration even on vacation or summer break. Why all of a sudden is there the supposed need to insinuate that God suddenly becomes extra baggage and intrusive on our vacation or summer break? Do individuals who call themselves Christians suddenly have memory lapse and forget who watches over them every day of their life to ensure their safety and wellbeing? How quickly one forgets who the giver and sustainer of life is. The world of today is a “me” world, wound up in mass confusion of hurry, fast and now. Think for a moment, what would be the impact if other vacationers saw you and your family leaving the hotel or campground dressed in Sunday attire, bible in hand and heading to worship while on vacation? What kind of example would parents being setting for their children and their impressionable minds? Would it not demonstrate to everyone the importance of God in your life? This summer as vacations are planned and taken or as summer breaks are being enjoyed make sure God is at the top of your “things to do and places to go” list. It would be tragic if God suddenly forgot about you and only wanted to enjoy some time to himself. In fact, if this were to happen this might be your last vacation.Until next week this is the Scriptural Truth. Tommy O’Kelley Minister Subligna Rd.
