Scriptural Truth – Darkness and Light

Darkness, it intrigues us, inviting us to explore what lies within its coverage during the night hours. There are those who are deathly afraid of the dark yet are still intrigued by what lies within it. I saw a commercial on television advertising the Sylvania Silver Star Ultra headlight. The selling point was simple, see the unseen at night. Things which were once hidden would become clearly visible. Darkness does have a unique allure to it despite how fearful one may be of the dark. The scriptures however have different views of darkness as it is associated to Satan. In Luke 11:34the scripture states “the light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness.” In John 8:12 Christ states “I am the light of the world: he that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. In Matthew twenty five the unprofitable servant was to be cast into outer darkness where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth. The contrast of these scriptures is good and evil, righteous and unrighteous, Christ and Satan, Heaven and Hell. Christ is the light of the world and in him is no darkness John 8:12 and 9:5. If one is in Christ as found in Romans 6 then one is no longer in darkness or sin. We are told not to love the things of this world (sin), nor to even have joy in those that dwell in sin. This includes their ways, thoughts, and activities. We either condone or condemn sin, there is no middle ground. How can one claim to be Christ like and take joy in an” R rated” movie which uses the Lords name in vain, has nudity, sex scenes and an overdose of foul language? There are those who claim to “be in the light” and yet take joy in such movies raving about how good they are, even recommending the movie to others. In First John1:7we are told” if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin.” We must choose to either walk in the light or walk in darkness. Walking in darkness will always leads to eternal punishment, choose light and live. Until next week this is the Scriptural Truth Tommy O’Kelley Minister Subligna Rd.
