Scriptural Truth – Delay is Costly

In 1781, several letters were dispatched to New York from Virginia. They contained pleas to General Henry Clinton and the British leadership in New York to send reinforcements. Lord Earl Cornwallis was under siege by Continental Forces in Yorktown, Virginia. The British leadership delayed in sending reinforcements until October 17th. This was, however, too late. Two days later, on October 19th, as the delayed reinforcements sailed towards Virginia, Cornwallis’ forces surrendered to General George Washington and the tide of the war was turned. News of the loss prompted the British House of Commons to vote against further war in America and peace was finally reached two years later. The delayed reaction of sending more troops certainly became a learning lesson for the British but it was too late. Too often our delay in the decisions we make can be costly as well. Some can be life threating while others will barely have an impact on us. There is however a decision and action each of us must make immediately. Why immediately? Because James states in chapter 4 that our life is like a vapor it appears for a moment and is gone. The decision to become a Christian , a true follower of Christ, is our eternal decision. It’s not a decision we have time to procrastinate about. The devil is fighting against us and delay is not a good choice. If someone delays their decision in becoming a Christian and their life should end then Satan has won their soul. Have you procrastinated to becoming a Christian? Did you think about it last year but just never got around to it? Don’t delay this year, make the steps needed to winning the fight against Satan and claiming the victory in Christ. Do you believe that Christ is the son of God and are you willing to repent of your sins? Will you make your confession of faith and be buried with Christ in baptism for the remission of your sins? If you would like to study the word of God together please contact me. Thanks to all who read my articles and for the kind words many have shared with me. Have a blessed and happy New Year.
