Scriptural Truth – The Battle of Goliath’s

I would ask you to imagine for a moment standing before a man approximately nine feet tall with a body so massive the mere sight would make you tremble with fear. Would you or I fight against this individual knowing with all certainty he would crumple us like a piece of paper? This is a story we read of in 1 Samuel 17 about David and Goliath. A mere shepherd boy versus this incredible spectacle of a man without fear or hesitation and we wonder why? There are perhaps a number of reasons, with the first choice being his faith in God. However, I would suggest to you his faith was much deeper than we are accustomed to today. David in every sense of the word knew the magnitude of Goliath yet he also knew the magnitude of our Great and Awesome God. We all face our own Goliath’s every day whatever they may be. We stand and tremble and often times are already defeated before the battle begins because we fail to realize what David knew. David said “The Lord who rescued me from the paw of a lion and a bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.” A great faith, yes indeed, but as Goliath was sized up against God David saw the magnitude of God and how awesome he is. David knew that Goliath didn’t stand a chance against God. David did not place the victory to come into the power of his own might nor in his skills with his sling for to do so would be futile. This event which took place years ago should be a reminder to us all that when God is fighting for us there is nothing or no one any greater. For all the Goliaths you may have in your life allow God to fight them with you and watch them fall face first to their death. Have you obeyed the gospel of Christ as seen in Acts 2:38 that will allow you to call upon the strength of God? If not why do you wait because obedience is essential for empowerment and salvation Mark 16:16. Make the decision today to obey and face your Goliath’s fortified for the battle.
