Scriptural Truth- Selfless Toward Christ

When one thinks of the betrayal of Christ the name Judas immediately comes to mind and the story of the betrayal kiss. I dare say many would consider Judas a friend of Christ or the cross but rather an enemy. It’s easy to recognize those enemies of Christ which standout but what about those not so easily recognizable? Paul draws our attention to these enemies in Philippians 3:18-19 “For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.” Notice Paul’s description of the enemies, think about ourselves and those we know. The end of the individuals Paul describes is destruction, a spiritual eternal destruction. Individuals who concern themselves with the fleshly desires of this life and do not lay up for themselves treasure in Heaven. The concern of the world today is about prosperity, gain and self. Paul identifies these individuals as those whose god is their belly, their glory is shame and they mind earthly things. These descriptions should sound familiar to us because in some cases we get wrapped up in what this life has to offer and we fit the “enemy mold.” None of us want to consider ourselves an enemy of the cross or of Christ yet if we are not pulling for Christ then we are going against Him. A lack of obedience to the Gospel as stated in the scripture is perhaps the greatest act of disobedience. It is in many cases a lack of understanding of the scripture or simply a stubborn, prideful will of self. If one was to truly heed the words of Christ in Mark 16:16 they would not ask what to do to have salvation. Christ stated it simply “He that believes and is baptized shall be saved” so then why so many misunderstandings of what to do to have ones sins washed away see Acts 2:38? The best answer is too much of self with a lack of zeal to do what is right. I challenge you to study the scriptures and search for the truth to make your salvation sure. May we always mind our ways and meditate on those things which are Christ like. Until next week this is the Scriptural Truth. Tommy O’Kelley Minister Subligna Rd.
