Scriptural Truth – Fanatic of Christ

This is an election year and we hear a lot of words being used to describe the actions, statements and stances of those running for office as well as those representing a particular party. One such word I have heard is “Fanatic.” The word or term itself is most commonly used in a derogatory manner indicating someone is way off in left field instead of being somewhere in the middle. In a spiritual application I would suggest being called a fanatic in religious matters is not such a bad thing and perhaps should be taken in a complimentary way. For those who associate themselves with Christ they should understand that being like Christ means you will stand up, stand out and speak up. When one declares their belief in Christ on a daily basis and is not ashamed of the gospel of Christ (Rom.1:16) they will most often be regarded as a fanatic. Now I am not speaking of the casual so called Christian but rather the one who lives day in and day out professing Christ in all they do and say. There are those who will state they are a Christian but are riding the fence of immorality and worldliness and Satan owns the fence. Christ stated in Matthew 12:30 “He that is not for me is against me” so we all must decide whether to ride the middle ground, the proverbial fence or stand with Christ as a fanatic. Christ came to seek and save the lost and his time on earth was spent doing just that. He was regarded by many as a fanatic and eventually it cost him his life but that was his plan from the beginning, to save you and me. Do your actions and participation in things bring honor to God and glory to the cross? To help answer these questions ask yourself if what you are doing is like the rest of the world or do you stand out in the crowd as being different? Whether you are pool side, beach side or just enjoying time with the family and friends to God be the glory if you’re a fanatic of Christ. Until next week this is the Scriptural Truth Tommy O’Kelley Minister Subligna Rd. Church of Christ (706) 638-1129 or (423) 413 – 5319, email tmdok4@windstream.net or Facebook
