Scriptural Truth- A Virtuous Mother

In the book of Proverbs chapter 31 we find the description of a Godly, virtuous woman. We see a woman whose husband and children recognize her qualities but especially the quality of her zeal and love for God. Throughout Proverbs, there are all kinds of warnings against women who are prostitutes, adulterous, contentious, nagging, etc., but here we have emphasis upon the woman who is truly noble. Her many wonderful qualities are thrift, industry, kindness, compassion, efficiency, business sense, discretion, discernment, true love, faithfulness and all the other graces and virtues of true womanhood. However, her crowning glory is mentioned in one of the concluding verses, “Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.” There is no ability or achievement that surpasses the sacred worthiness of a truly Christian woman. Today’s society and women’s rights activist try to humiliate and destroy the Godly woman who stays home to raise her children, take care of her husband and her home. The cry of society is a complete opposite of God’s ordained role for the wife and mother. A woman can certainly work outside the home and still be the woman described in Proverbs. The balancing act of being the woman described in Proverbs and being a successful woman in a business world lies in her ability of sacrifice. Those who fail to find salvation and fulfillment in Christ Jesus, regardless of other so-called achievements and successes, have failed in terms of being a Godly woman. Success has its price but so does anything worth having. I am blessed to have a wife, a mother and mother in law who all depict the woman spoken of in Proverbs. I pray this Mother’s Day will be a special one for all mothers and that maybe each will take the time to read and study Proverbs 31. There is no shame in the duties and role of being a wife and mother within the realms of God’s word, in fact there is more praise to be given to this type of woman. Happy Mother Day! Until next week this is the Scriptural Truth. Tommy O’Kelley Minister Subligna Rd. Church of Christ (706) 638-1129 or (423) 413 – 5319, email tmdok4@windstream.net or Facebook.
