Scriptural Truth – Discarding Of Scripture

I would say most of us have been to yard sales and purchased items. Probably most have had a yard sale and sold items. The discarded items we buy or sale is items which no longer work, don’t fit or no longer have need for and they’re in our way. Sadly this scenario is true when it comes to the scriptures. As the years pass things change and according to the thinking of many so must the scriptures. People have discarded the parts of scripture which no longer serve them, appeal to them or are just in their way for what they want to believe and how they want to live. In the Old Testament book of Jeremiah there’s an event much like what I’m talking about. Notice the following scripture “Then the king sent Jehudi to get the scroll, and he took it from the chamber of Elishama the secretary. And Jehudi read it to the king and all the officials who stood beside the king. It was the ninth month, and the king was sitting in the winter house, and there was a fire burning in the fire pot before him. As Jehudi read three or four columns, the king would cut them off with a knife and throw them into the fire in the fire pot, until the entire scroll was consumed in the fire that was in the fire pot. Yet neither the king nor any of his servants who heard all these words was afraid, nor did they tear their garments” Jerimiah 36:21-24. Sadly, there are a number of people today who search for a religion that “cuts out” scripture. The truth of scripture is not what most people want. Most desire a religion that falls in the category of “what fits my lifestyle and makes me feel good.” There is a warning from Christ pertaining to this in John 7:18 “The one who speaks on his own authority seeks his own glory; but the one who seeks the glory of him who sent him is true, and in him there is no falsehood.” We must understand no matter how many scriptures are twisted out of context or cut out; the truth will never change and will be the standard of judgment one day. I urge you to search for the truth in the following passages: Mark 16:16, Acts 2:38, 1 Pet. 3:21 or Romans 6, for in these passages and others like them lies our eternal destination. Please don’t discard truth but search it and apply it to your life.
